WinHistory.DE - Windows OS Historical Chronicle

Of course every lifeform has a "turning point" in their history that alters the course of their life for either better or worse. When I, for one, was little, I had to rely on DOS and Norton Commander - functional, but not enough sauce, when I first got my hands on a PC... that is, 'till Windows 95 came along, with its system-native games, advanced features and complete independence from DOS - and that pretty much was my turning point, going through trials and tribulations until, as 19 years old, I reached the status I run a spankin' new computer runnin' today's Windows 7. Oh yes, the good ol' days...

Makes sense that Dirk Makowski of Winhistory.DE serves as a Windows OS historian, keepin' track of all the MS-DOS, Windows, OS/2 1.x released so far and, yes, even that disaster MS-BOB, stemmming from all the OS' he has in storage, past to present. Any Windows nostalgic and retro-nut should feel free to visit Dirk's Digital Windows Museum at www.winhistory.de.

Oh yes - and Dirk also has the latest 'n greatest in Windows OS', namely Vista and 7.

New Times, New PCs

[Establishing Personal Log: 2010.06.02....]

The moment this log entry is completed, it is from, thanks to my 19th lifeyear, my brand new, Intel i3 Core-powered, Nvidia Geforce GTX 480-card boosted, super-coolant equipped and Windows 7 operating computer. And believe me - Nexuiz runs EXCELLENTLY to my favor, even going so far as to win my first Nexuiz match with a single bot. May the Arena Masters bless this game with immortality.

As for my older computer... let's jest say it kept the faith since its Christmas activation until the end, which is having control transferred to one "Lévai Olimpia", my younger sister. *hah* "Sister". "Nemesis" would be too kind for the likes of her. Can't properly set up a firewall, let alone last a Nexuiz match.

Well, happy 19th birthday to one lucky next-gen gamer.

And this one's just for testament...

Farewell to Old Warriors

[Establishing Captain's personal log: 2010.02.25....]

All good things must come to an end, one way or another...

Ever since Toonami, that tidal wave of cartoons, Cartoon Network's actiontoon show run by Ghost Industries vec TOM, shut down permanently after 1.1 decades, and the plug pulled on the Power Rangers, eliminating future series, after 1.7, things haven't been the same at ComCent.

Plus, I haven't been lately myself.
So are my men, women, aliens and machines.
An uncertain tomorrow, this is.

September 28 2008 was the end of the line for Tom and his new crew on the Jungleworld Installation. Once the shutdown order from CN Command was received, the whole place, responsible for airing of some of the best action cartoons and anime fresh from Nihon, went dark for good while the vecs EVACed what was once their home, sweet home. I can hear TOM4's farewell message to everyone on Sol3 ring in my memory datalinks, awake or deeply asleep...

-- Toonami Command TOM
Final Toonami transmission, MY 2008
Datalinks

"Hopefully we've left you some good memories." he said. That is right - the memories of the glory days. But they've also left us with unanswered questions too; "Where is the Absolution?" and "What happened to TOM?" to name two of them. But some unanswered mysteries are best left be.

Next to join the High Heavens are - you guessed it - the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers themselves, based on the nihonji Super Sentai Series that is, thank the Lord, still running - 34 series, 34 years and counting.

Imagine an MMPR scenario, if you will:

in every series to date, the fight between good and evil is illustrated, with the good side winning most of the time. The basic premise of the series is that a group of five (in some cases fewer) people gain special powers (magical or technological), wear colored outfits, and use advanced weapons and martial arts skills to battle powerful beings from other planets and/or dimensions threatening to take over the Earth. In most of the episodes, after the team has beaten an army of evil creatures ("grunts") and the "monster of the week", they call for huge robotic vehicles/animals ("mechas") that can combine to form one giant robot to fight an enlarged version of the monster.

Got it?

This just in:

RPM, Series 16 based on Engine Sentai Go-onger, was the last Power Rangers series, and by 2010, Fox said "lights out" to our spandex-clad superhuman warriors. Only rerun TV series and still in-print toys can - and will - remind anyone of their past glory - the first toku show of all, including me... after all, someone has to start of somewhere, right?

Oh well - at least they left us like every finished monster do: with a bang - a real, real big bang of glory.

For some, especially some certain girls, in their grieving phases, take these facts a little... too well, and wound up sharing their fate, some honorably rendered final salutes to the heroes of old, others forgot what is behind and moved on to what is ahead, for they'll be having the latest 'n greatest stuff if they simply move on with their whole lives.

Me? While the aftereffects of ending shows and playing alternate reality games (ARG) will haunt my nightmares like how demons haunt a lost soul, I was among the saluters giving a big-hearted, spirited sendoff of a goodbye, like a real trooper would do on the funerals of fallen fighters. Here's to an eternal good night to our favorites.

Speaking of the situation at hand, let anyone mark my words before logging off:

Stay gold 'till we meet again, TOMmy-bot. May the Morphing Grid accept the memory of the Power Rangers with open arms.

This has been Joseph of Léva, Lt. Colonel, Hungarian milopscom, signing off and going to bed into chillin' weird dreams...

LEGO Mars Mission - MilOpsCom LJ, Last Log on Mars

"Astro military operations (milops) command LJ, personal log recording, 39 AT (2008 AD) December 24.

I, as the martian winter came in full force this christmas eve, am currently recalling the previous events and battles that occured during the now historical Mars Mission of the LEGO Astros. To get the show on the road with, back in 38 AT (2007 AD) the mission started with the launch of the "Eagle" Astro Shuttle from Earth to the Red Planet. Guess what - I was among the Astros who first set foot on Mars.
Upon discovery of energy-bearing crystals, our mission should've been routine: land on Mars, mine the crystals, and return homeworld with the precious new mineral energy source, and we happen to have the mining units for the harvesting job. It should be, given that our ops ran smoothly... but fate and unknown factors had other plans for us, as the crystals we mined began disappearing.

The cause? Took us Astros not long to find out: we have made first contact with Alien life... and definately stealthily raiding to take what's rightfully our property, glowing in the dark and possessing technology we know absolute zero about. This, and more Alien reports by my fellow Astro colleagues, proved that mankind is not alone in the Universe. But once they're discovered, we'll wish we did...

Alien activity, at first, consisted of minor raids, of which Astro infantry easily took care of, but with their cover blown, the Alien scum decided it's hi-time for more open - and violent - military operations to harvest the crystals for themselves as they brought the big guns in, from much-loathed Alien StrikeFighters and Infiltrators to the abominable Mothership, heart of Alien military operations.
What we started out as a routine mining team, as a result of the xeno threat, evolved into a hi-tech military defense force, created to defeat the Alien invasion at all acceptable costs and consisting of Trikes, ClawTanks, AstroFighters, CrystalReapers, SwitchFighters and the flagship Hypersonic Operations Aircraft, in the name of the mission, the Earth and mankind: the Astro Military Force (AMF) and the Astro Special Ops Division (ASOD). Good thing I still have warrior blood in my immune system the time Eagle Command made me MilOps command, just to kick ET keister for a long time.

Only one thing in mind: WAR... but this time on Mars and against a hostile alien race for the crystals. And so did war erupt.

There we LEGO Astronauts were, being the first men on a world other than our blue planet for the sake of mining energy-rich xenominerals and bringing them back to Earth, only to have a peaceful mission degenerate into all-out war upon first contact. Good thing my combine skills of military tactics, economics and firepower as milops
